Noted Quote: Blame Shootings On ‘Cultural Shift’

“Since our founding, Americans have owned and kept guns in their homes.  The recent rise in mass shootings is not a product of gun ownership but a cultural shift that has occurred in our nation, requiring serious evaluation.  Any proposals to address this shift must work to solve the problem, not just force Congress to ‘do something.'” ~ Congressman James Lankford

    Except…

    Gun violence is down..
And all of these shooters seem to be on anti-psychotics or anti-depressants..
And our culture is arguably less violent today…
And when we didn’t have “gun free zones” we didn’t have mass shootings (at least not nearly as often)…

Perhaps the Congressman should investigate the correlation between these drugs and these shootings.

Here is a shocking article on anti-psychotics: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/25/health/a-call-for-caution-in-the-use-of-antipsychotic-drugs.html?_r=0

This is not to say there is no use for these drugs. I believe about 1% of society has schizophrenia, and 1.5% has bi-polar disorder. That is what these drugs were designed to treat. Ask yourself why they are treating so many other things now – and the answer is money. The anti-psychotics Abilify and Seroquel, for example, are the 5th and 6th most prescribed drugs in the country. Perhaps that should be where the questions start.
