Editorial Slaps GOP ‘Strong desire to pass new laws’

This year Oklahoma legislators have filed 2,378 bills and 77 joint resolutions — 2,455 in all. That was up by about 200 compared with last year. According to the 2012 Session in Review and 2003 Session Highlights reports produced by state House fiscal staff, the number of bills and joint resolutions filed this year was the most since 2009. More notably, this year’s total is the second-highest in the past 20 years. Filing legislation isn’t the same thing as passing laws; only about 400 measures are typically signed by the governor each year. Still, it is ironic that a Legislature with Republican supermajorities has shown such a strong desire to pass new laws. One has to hope many of these bills are repealers, not new law. If not, given that big Democratic majorities in 1993 got by with just 1,475 measures, shouldn’t small-government Republicans be able to do the same?

The Word Rino no longer means, “Republican in name only”. It really means “Closet Democrat”,

In the past I have ran for State Rep and my intentions to work and get bad bills
off of the books. I also have served I believe about 15 or 16 times on the
Plartform Committee. There were RINO’s in there a lot of times to destroy
it. Coming from the democrat party I thought it was conservative for me. They
tried to take the Bible out of it which I did not like. Now I am a Constituional
Conservative and a Republican second. We know why we can’t win Elections
when he run moderates. Reagan is a great example and taught that.

“One has to hope many of these bills are repealers”. Its a nice sentiment but has the paper bothered to check and see how many of these bills are repealing the bad laws passed by 100 years of Democrat dominance, ending spending on Democrat created programs, and reforming what is left?

I suspect that the authors of a lot of these bills know they will go nowhere, but they are meant to get some pushy agenda-driven constituents off their backs.
