House Panel Approves Corrections Employee Bonus Plan

House Communications Division

Corrections employees would get a bonus under legislation approved unanimously by the House budget committee.

House Bill 2019, by state Rep. Sean Roberts would tie the bonus to the number of years a corrections employees has served, beginning at $200 for a 1-year employee and giving an additional $50 per year up to 12 years of service.

“There has been a lot of discussion of the need to create additional incentives for corrections employees,” said Roberts, R-Hominy. “It has been 7 years since corrections employees have had a raise.  I would prefer to see correction employees receive a much deserved raise, but this would ensure they get something this year if we are not able to get a pay raise approved.”

The bill was approved by the House Appropriations and Budget Committee. It now advances to the House Calendar Committee, which will schedule for a hearing on the House floor.
