Douglas Enters 5th District Race

Edmond businesswoman and Corporation Commissioner Patrice Douglas said today she will seek the Republican nomination for Congress in the 5th District. Incumbent James Lankford is a candidate for the U. S. Senate.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to bring some common sense, conservative thinking to Washington, D.C.,” said Douglas. “As a businesswoman and a Mom, I believe it is vitally important that we have elected leaders who will protect our moral values, and oppose the constant intrusion of the federal government.”
Douglas, a former Mayor of Edmond, now serves as one of Oklahoma’s three Corporation Commissioners after Governor Mary Fallin appointed her to the position in 2010. She graduated from Oklahoma Christian University before pursuing her Juris Doctorate from the University of Oklahoma.
“My roots here in Oklahoma’s Fifth District run deep, with connections in communities from Shawnee to Bethany,” said Douglas. “All across the district, conservatives like me believe in the same things: lower taxes, limited government, and protecting our Constitutional freedoms.”
Douglas said she has experience in pushing back against federal overreach due to her experience on the Corporation Commission, where she has fought against costly EPA regulations.
“The EPA and other government agencies are frankly out of control,” said Douglas. “If we don’t send people to Washington who will fight against their burdensome regulations, our economy will suffer tremendous harm.”
Patrice currently serves as the Chairman of the Oklahoma Corporation Commission. She is an Oklahoma native and former mayor of Edmond. She is a graduate of Putnam City North High School, and Oklahoma Christian University. She spent several years helping run her family business, a local sheet metal company started by her father.
Patrice and her husband, Brent, live in Edmond with their two sons, Patrick and Phillip.

[…] The one possibly worrisome aspect of Roth — when he was on the Corp Comm, he seemed awfully buddy-buddy with Chesapeake’s Aubrey McClendon — may or may not have evaporated with McClendon’s departure from CHK. Still, who among the Republicans can beat him? Maybe another Commissioner: […]
