Churchwell Named To GRDA Board

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAGovernor Fallin today announced the appointment of Thomas “Pete” Churchwell of Grove to the Grand River Dam Authority (GRDA) board of directors. He is succeeding Betty Kerns, who resigned.

Churchwell will serve the remainder of Kern’s unexpired term ending in August 2015 and will represent economic development interests, lake enthusiasts and property owners.

He is retired from Public Service Co.  of Oklahoma (PSO), a unit of American Electric Power, where he served as president and chief operations officer.

“Thomas Churchwell has spent his entire career in energy management in both the public and private sector,” Fallin said. “He brings a unique leadership skill-set to the GRDA and will serve this agency well.”

Throughout his career, Churchwell served in a variety of roles including: executive vice president for West Texas Utilities in Abilene, Texas (1993-96); vice president of corporate services for Central and South West Services in Dallas (1991-93); general manager of Central Power and Light Co. in Corpus Christi, Texas (1989-91); vice president of corporate service for PSO in Tulsa (1978-89); human resources director for PSO (1978-84); labor relations manager for Getty Oil Co. in Tulsa (1976-78); director of benefits for Getty Oil  (1974-76); and in various roles for Standard Oil Co. (Amoco) in Tulsa (1966-71).

He currently serves on the Grand lake Watershed Alliance Foundation and on the board of directors at the Har-Ber Village Museum.

Churchwell previously served as a member of the International Society of the Energy Advocates; board member and chairman of the Council of Education and Workforce Development for the State Chamber of Oklahoma; and as a previous board member of Rural Enterprises of Oklahoma.

He received a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Tulsa and completed Harvard Business School’s advanced management program
