Hofmeister Declines TV Appearance With Democrats

KFOR-TV

The race to be Oklahoma’s next State Superintendent is not calming down after the primary.

NewsChannel 4 invited Republican candidate Joy Hofmeister and Democratic candidates Freda Deskin and John Cox to discuss the future of Oklahoma Education during the Wednesday 4:30 p.m. newscast. This was not a debate and guests were informed of this.

Hofmeister arrived and then declined to appear alongside one of her possible Democratic opponents and left the news station. She told Linda Cavanaugh her advisors suggested she not appear on a broadcast with anyone who was not her general election opponent. The top two Democratic candidates didn’t win a majority of the vote and that forced an August runoff between Freda Deskin and John Cox.
