This add sounds of desperation. All the issues and attack the man on his salary. The local school board has set Dr. John Cox’s salary over the last 20 years. The State of Oklahoma payscale has set forth teacher pay.
To say that Dr. John Cox has taken money from teachers is fairytale fabrication.
This add sounds more like a class warfare Liberal Democratic presentation.
I am a Conservative Christian Republican, and only one of many who are voting for and will carry Dr. Cox to victory and knowledgeable school reform. Dr. John is loved and respected by Democrats and Republicans alike!
His knowledge, depth, and wisdom were very evident in the debate.

The local school board has indeed set Dr. Cox’s salary – stupidly high, too. If Dr. Cox had any integrity, he’d ask that they not raise his exorbitant salary any more and instead devote the money that would have gone to him to the teachers instead.
The local school board is NOT bound by the Oklahoma pay scale. That pay scale does nothing more than set the minimum salary a teacher can earn. The board can exceed the state scale and many school districts DO. The school district has only so much money to spend, and every dollar they give to the overpaid Dr. Cox is a dollar they CAN’T give to a teacher. John Cox is another OEA drone who will do nothing to advance education in Oklahoma. Sadly, I don’t have much confidence that Mrs. Hofmeister will either.

The Chamber of Commerce and their education control plans are backing Hofmeister. I will not support that. My party, the GOP should not allow corporate control and the money that comes with it over ride the principles of the party platform.

I am a Republican supporting John Cox. He is a knowledgeable educator who has the respect of those who have known and worked with him. This piece and the other “anonymous” source piece are weak efforts to make him look bad. Is there any concern about Hofmeister’s conversations and possible meetings with Chad Alexander about running an “independent” campaign which actually is activity under investigation?

The fact is Cox will represent the people of Oklahoma and continue to oppose the huge top down centralized control of education that Hofmeister has already embraced. There is plenty of proof such as the “group of administrators” backing her– her first donors including — Supt. of Tulsa Ballard and Supt of Stillwater Cain. Hofmeister is also the “candidate” chosen by the Tulsa Regional Chamber of Commerce as I was told directly when I attended their education meeting prior to her announcement.

Cox has years of experience in working with and for local control of education. He spoke at a forum in Tulsa along we me, Jack Heron and Donna Anderson last August openly opposing Common Core. Hofmeister will bring in her “coalition” of Common Core supporters to back up more of the same centralized planning that we have been fighting with Supt. Barresi. She has a “nicer” personality but behind that is the very same agenda. She just wants to do it better. She has said that numerous times. Informed republicans across the state will be voting for Cox.

Mr. Bullard, are you possibly a member of the Peggs School Board?

  5. Ben, 26 October, 2014

Anyone familiar with the education system at all knows that contracts with teachers and administraters are negotiated regularly. The school board sets the Superintendent salary, but based on the negotiation with the administrator himself. Superintendents can decline or defer pay increases. So don’t attempt to take the responsibility of his exorbitant salary out of his hands.

Very good question Mr. Vernon Woods. You can see that I am sure convinced of the integrity and capabilities of Dr. John Cox. Apparently his school board at Peggs feels the same way. He is a great Christian man whom I have known for over a decade. Dr. John is the President of the Oklahoma Rural Elementary Schools. I served on his executive board (ORES) before leaving education for 2 years. My admiration and respect for this man is great as you can surmise.
Dr. John works tirelessly for our public schools in Oklahoma, serving in many capacities. I have been in many meetings throughout the years with him. He is the same humble, kind man where ever you may see him. In this world there are some folks who may know you one minute and not the next.
    Dr. John is consistent.
THE BIBLE SAYS CONFESSION IS GOOD FOR THE SOUL!
I VOTED FOR JANET BARESSI IN 2010. OH MY, I JUST SAID THAT PUBLICALLY.
I am a public school superintendent, Ordained Assembly of God Minister, cattle rancher, father, husband, and registered Republican. I have served as my county vice-chairman, state and district committee man. Before the redistricting of 2001, I was the vice-chairman of the 3rd District Republican Party which included 21 counties.
I take my vote, name , and endorsement very seriously.
There is seemingly a split in the political parties over Common Core. Common Core is unpatriotic and wrong. I am certified in and teach the TRUE AMERICA HISTORY, CC is a threat to anyone who loves or teaches history. It’s objectives are pathetic. Dr. John has stood against this, and always touted local control.
DR. JOHN HAS NOT SLUNG MUD BACK. HE COULD, that’s just not who he is!

Thank you Mr. Woods for your comment and question. I am a Christian Conservative. Dr. John Cox whom I admire and trust greatly better represents my beliefs, values, and vision for Oklahoma Public Education.
I believe if folks are going to post on this site, they as Mr. Woods and I should give their real name. A man’s word should mean something, so if your word is going to be any good, put your name behind it.
I will not break Ronald Reagan’s 11th commandment, Joy Hofmeister seems to be a very nice lady, but John Cox is better qualified.
His heart, I believe is in the right place. For all those criticizing him, he will receive a pay cut when elected. THAT SHOWS HIS DEDICATION AND PASSION FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION.
    GOD BLESS

Mr. Bullard, thank you for your many words.
However, once again – are you possibly a member of the Peggs School Board?

  8. C. Lynn Bullard, 27 October, 2014

    No

  9. Castor, 27 October, 2014

He may be a fine man, but three things should be noted:
    1. Peggs school district earned a B grade. Not bad, but not superior either. If he can’t do better than that with a small district, what makes us think he will do better with the whole state?
    2. His teachers earn minimum scale. If he were a leader, he’d bump them up a little, like a lot of other districts.
    3. He earns a big salary in a little district, notwithstanding the low teacher salaries. As superintendent, he should be urging his school board to increase their salaries even if it means that his wallet doesn’t get much fatter.
Oh, and am I a supporter of Mrs. Hofmeister? No.
