Oklahoma Watch: Ethics Commission Fails To Collect $200,000 In Fees

okwatch-9803

Oklahoma Watch reports the Ethics Commission has not collected more than $200,000 in fees it should have been paid. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg: http://www.tulsaworld.com/news/capitol_report/oklahoma-watch-ethics-agency-fails-to-collect-in-fees/article_05e87e74-9bf3-5446-a91a-046f9ec036a6.html

This is silly. Why don’t they just hire a bill collector? Yes, they’ll pay a commission, but getting part of that money is better than getting none of it.

“Ethics Commission” fails to apply ethics! How effective is that!!! Just how bad do we need something which does not work???

So, a formal 5-member ethics commission (probably reimbursed to meet and make ‘decisions’), and a 5-person staff and director were not collecting fines/interest, and are now not even assessing any fines because they cost too much to collect.

My questions is – do these people have any other responsibilities, and if so, are those duties being fulfilled?

Just what is our return on the 700+K budget granted by the state for this commission?

I’m not bad-mouthing the personnel – just their ability to do their jobs.
