Four candidates filed Wednesday to run for Oklahoma City Council in the March 3 election.

Four seats representing Wards 2, 5, 6 and 8 are on the ballot.

The three-day filing period runs through Friday.

Incumbent Meg Salyer filed for re-election to her seat representing Ward 6, which includes much of downtown and neighborhoods north and south of downtown.

In Ward 2, community activist James Cooper and Pastor Major Jemison filed to run for the seat held by Ed Shadid. Shadid has said he will seek re-election. Ward 2 includes neighborhoods in north-central and northwest Oklahoma City.

In Ward 8, oil and gas attorney Mark Stonecipher filed for the seat representing far north and northwest Oklahoma City. Incumbent Pat Ryan is retiring after 10 years on the council.

In southwest Oklahoma City’s Ward 5, Councilman David Greenwell previously announced plans to seek re-election.

Eligible Oklahoma City residents who want to vote in the election have until Feb. 6 to register.
