Senate President Pro Tempore Brian Bingman on Tuesday issued the following statement on the passing of former Senator Bill Gustafson. An El Reno Republican, Gustafson served two terms representing District 22 in the Senate, from 1990 to 1998. In 1996, he was elected by Senate Republicans to serve as Minority Leader.

“Bill Gustafson served his state and country with honor. He was a distinguished veteran and a recipient of the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat in the Korean War. As a Senator, he was a powerful advocate for Oklahoma veterans, and a leading voice on economic development issues. He was a hard-working member and an effective leader for the Republican caucus. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family in their time of mourning.”—Senate Pres. Pro Tempore Brian Bingman, R-Sapulpa

What a great guy and a great PUBLIC servant who knew enough to ask questions and listen on issues he was not familiar with. We could use MORE senators like Sen. Gustafson.
