Russell Moves To Protect 2nd Amendment Rights Of Military, DOD Employees

russellapCongressman Steve Russell has introduced H.R. 3227 “The Protecting America’s Warriors Act.”

The purpose of this bill is to protect the Second Amendment rights of the military members and civilian employees of the Department of Defense, by allowing trained personnel to carry officially-issued or personally-owned handguns on military installation in the United States. It is worth noting that if enacted, this bill would prevent the President from restricting this right through an Executive Order.

Russell further commented on H.R. 3227:

“First and foremost, this bill is about the second amendment.  Why should military members lose their right to bear arms when they are on a military base?  Our Armed Forces are heavily trained in firearm safety protocols and they should not lose their Constitutional rights while serving our nation.  I do understand there is concern about the recent gun violence on military bases, but in these tragedies, the ones who were carrying weapons were the ones who were not supposed to.  How many lives could have been saved had trained professionals been allowed to do their jobs with a firearm at their side?”
