ORA Hosts State Convention

ora1The Oklahoma Rifle Association, state affiliate of the National Rifle Association, will host its 2015 State Convention on Saturday, August 15. Site of the meeting is the Reed Center, 5800 Will Rogers Road. The opening business convenes at 1:00 pm and features three outstanding seminars.

The first is entitled “Jim Masterson, Deputy U.S. Marshal” by Dee Cordry, a 25 year veteran of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. Jim Master was the brother of
the famous “Bat Masterson” and was deeply involved with law enforcement in the
young state of Oklahoma, notably the “Shoot-Out at Ingalls near present day
Stillwater.

At 2:00 pm the seminar is “The Army Sniper.” According to the
U.S. Department of Defense, the average number of rounds to kill an enemy
soldier during the war in Vietnam with the M-16 rifle was 50,000. On the other
hand, American snipers expended an average of 1.3 rounds for the same result.
Qualifications and training of snipers will be presented by a U.S. Army Sniper
Instructor.

At 3:00 pm, in recent weeks law enforcement around the nation has
come under criticism for what some term “excessive violence.” Oklahoma County
Sheriff John Whetsel will make a presentation of the current status of law
enforcement and general public relations and what individuals can do to assist
police in maintaining fair and just enforcement.

All seminars are open to the public.

On Saturday evening, doors open at 6:30 pm for the ORA’s Annual
Awards Banquet. Following dinner at 7:30 pm, William H. Campbell, Oklahoma City
Attorney will address a topic that is certain to be of high interest to all
Oklahoma: “Constitutional Carry:”carrying of firearms in public without state
licensing.

During the awards portion of the evening, Oklahoma County Reserve
Deputy Mark Vaughan will be citied for his heroic action at Vaughan Foods in
Moore in the fall of 2014. Retrieving his AR-15 from his truck on that fateful
day Vaughan shot a crazed attacker who had already beheaded one woman and was
cutting on his next victim.

The ORA Annual Awards Banquet is also open to the
public.
