Superintendent Joy Hofmeister today praised Senator Bryce Marlatt for his proposal to fund across-the-board teacher pay raises.
“Thank you to Senator Bryce Marlatt for proposing an across-the-board teacher pay raise, and for looking for creative solutions in spite of the tough budgetary times,” she wrote on Facebook.
“We can and we must address the teacher shortage crisis in Oklahoma, and paying our teachers as professionals is a good start,” Hofmeister said.
Hofmeister then encouraged her followers to “read about Senator Marlatt’s proposal and then share it on your social media platforms.”

Of course she likes Senator Marlatt’s proposal! It’s “across the board” – no thought required, just shoot more money at everyone in the system and sit back and enjoy the applause.
How about we see where the main teacher shortages are? Math and science teachers? Inner city, mid-high schools? And then why not focus better pay in those areas? It’s called supply and demand – even school administrators can use it.
And, not to belabor the point, why not pay the best ones more than the others?
