Jolley To Help Make Medical Examiner Move Possible

Moving the State Medical Examiner’s Office to the Oklahoma County Health Department Building is being praised as a way for the agency to save money while trying to regain accreditation. The move is possible because the Land Office Commission owns the building.

“This move will result in a savings of millions of dollars, and we would be able to have those monies go straight back into education,” said Senator Clark Jolley. “I’m very grateful to the Commissioners of the Land Office (CLO) for being innovative in helping us find a solution that will save state dollars and help restore our accreditation.”

One piece of business must be done by the Legislature to make it official. This is because under current state law, the Medical Examiner’s Office is required to be on the campus of the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO). Jolley has introduced Senate Bill 866 to eliminate this requirement.

The money collected by the Land Office from the Medical Examiner’s Office moving to the Oklahoma County Health Department Building will be used for public schools.

This may sound like a done deal but that’s far from true . Yes , they may now have a building but that building isn’t a medical examiners office and making it one will take a lot of money . Not as much a new building would have taken but money all the same . Our state treasurer is talking about a one billion dollar budget shortfall this year so it will interesting to see where, if any, money is found to make this a realty.
