Medicare beneficiaries are saving thousands of dollars after reviewing their Part D plan with the Oklahoma Insurance Department’s Medicare Assistance Program (MAP) and its contracted partners across Oklahoma. A new map reveals the savings all over the state.

“This new data is a perfect example of why Oklahomans on Medicare should review their plan,” Insurance Commissioner John D. Doak said. “The goal of MAP and the Senior Health Insurance Counseling Program (SHIP) is to save Oklahomans money so they can have a better quality of life, and I’m proud that we have accomplished that.”

Medicare beneficiaries can get free education and enrollment help at a series of events held across the state by MAP and its partner agencies. At the Medicare Forums, beneficiaries can learn about recent changes to Medicare, Medicare Advantage and Part D plan options. Seniors who can’t attend one of these events can still receive free, unbiased counseling by contacting MAP or one of its partner agencies. To find an event or agency near you, go to map.oid.ok.gov.

Cynthia Reeves from Jefferson County reviewed her Medicare plan this year with the help of SHIP counselors.

“It is important for us that are on Medicare to have health insurance, but with everything getting so expensive sometimes food takes a back seat,” Reeves said. “I called the SHIP program and did a plan comparison, and we saved over $5,000. They were friendly and informative. We need to be informed on the changes of our health care and the prices and that’s what this did.”
