Hand Delivered Absentee Ballots Passes House

Hand delivering absentee ballots won unanimous approval in the House on Monday. Rep. Ken Walker wrote House Bill 1302 which requires an individual who hand delivers his or her absentee ballot to show proof of identity and do so before 7 pm on the day of the election.

“I think one of our most important tasks is to ensure government does not get in the way,” said Walker, R-Tulsa. “The absentee ballot process improves voter participation, but can cause a problem, when an individual gets behind on turning it in by mail. The easiest fix to the problem is to just allow them to hand deliver it if they get in a bind for time.”

The measure heads to the Senate for consideration.
