I admire many things President Boren has done for the state and the university, but this move makes me question his acuity. If this passes, Oklahoma will have the highest sales tax in the nation. Being able to say “we’re number 1in sales tax” is not a good slogan. The claim that we are 48th in teacher salary does not reflect any adjustment for cost of living, which puts us in the 30-something range. As long as we have 500+ school districts that refuse to consider merging administrative functions with other districts, adding more money is a foolish move.
