OK Policy Launches Budget Public Education Campaign

The Oklahoma Policy Institute is using humor and multimedia to launch an education campaign concerning the state budget. The think tank teamed up with former Oklahoman artist David Bizzaro to create the video series. The puppet videos provide an alternative look at the state’s budget situation lawmakers are facing.

“Without significant new revenue, the consequences could be truly dire, including teacher layoffs and school closures, more severe overcrowding of correctional facilities, and the closing of nursing homes, hospitals, and other critical health care facilities,” said David Blatt, executive director for OK Policy. “But these cuts are not inevitable. We’ve developed a list of 16 potential revenue streams that could be tapped into to avoid this unconscionable scenario. Armed with this information, Oklahomans can do something. We can take action.”

The videos can be viewed at www.dosomethingok.org. The site also solicits Oklahomans to talk to their legislators and to share their experiences.
