Virgin Wins Challenge Against Republican Opponent

Rep. Emily Virgin will go on to claim a fourth term in office after a State Election Board panel ruled that her Republican opponent was ineligible for office. The Oklahoman reports Virgin challenged the candidacy of Corey Perry due to a felony charge when he was 19 years old. Because she has drawn no other opponents, Virgin wins the seat unopposed.

REALLY? This was for a charge he incurred as a teenager (he was 19). His record was expunged. And now his Democrat candidate is so afraid to run against him that she has to go whining to the election board—and they rule AGAINST HIM? Uh, what, pray tell, does “expunged” rmean?

King David probably reflected the sentiments of most of us when he prayed “remember not the sins of my youth”. If an expunged record from something that happened when you were 19 can keep you from running for office, then we really don’t have any second chances built into our system, and we’re more into “I got you” games than we are interested in protecting the public. Something is fundamentally wrong with this picture.
