House Proclaims Police Week

The House passed a resolution Wednesday to proclaim May 15-21 Police Week in Oklahoma. Rep. Mike Christian said it was only appropriate to honor law enforcement for the risk they take to protect the public.

“These are our heroes in our state,” said author Rep. Mike Christian, R-Oklahoma City. “Each and every day, men and women in law enforcement put themselves at risk to keep us secure. Without the sacrifice they make, there would be no justice. These brave men and women will live in our hearts forever.”

The first recorded law enforcement death in the U.S. was in 1791. Since then, more than 20,000 law enforcement officers have died in the line of duty, including 488 in Oklahoma.

May 15th is National Peace Officers Memorial Day.
