McCullough’s School Safety Drill Bill Heads to Governor’s Desk

Legislation enhancing the way schools conduct safety drills passed the House on Thursday. House Bill 2931 streamlines and increases the flexibility of the school safety drill process and emphasizes active shooter drills. The measure also requires a drill to be conducted within the first 15 days of the start of the school year.

Rep. Mark McCullough wrote the bill.

“This legislation was the result of a collaborative process of numerous school safety experts and other education officials,” said McCullough. “There was a lot of thought put into how we could improve school safety and this new drill process, vetted by the Oklahoma School Security Institute, was the answer we came up with in our deliberations.”

HB 2931, if signed into law, would also require schools report on the drills to the Oklahoma School Security Institute.
