The Oklahoma Commission on the Status of Women (OCSW) recently presented the 2016 Guardian Award to Rep. Jason Nelson (HD-87 Oklahoma City) and Rep. Jason Dunnington (HD-88 Oklahoma City) on the House floor.

Each year, the Guardian Award is presented to an elected official who has made significant governmental contributions to guarding, protecting and preserving the rights of women and families.

Lou Kohlman, OCSW Chair, thanked legislators for their votes supporting women and families.

Elected in 2008 to represent District 87, Rep. Nelson has served as House Majority Co-Floor Leader, Vice-Chairman of the Rules Committee, member on the Appropriations and Budget Committee, Human Services Sub-Committee on Appropriations and Budget, the Common Education Committee and the Human Services Committee. Rep. Nelson was recognized for HB2946, allowing minor victims of sexual assault to consent to forensic medical examinations, and for HB2965, regarding child abuse reporting. Rep. Nelson also authored HB3393 – the Lindsey Nicole Henry Scholarship for Students with Disabilities Program Act.

Elected in 2014 to represent District 88, Rep. Dunnington has served on the Environmental Law Committee and State Government Operations Committee. Rep. Dunnington was recognized for sponsoring HB2929, the Equal Pay Act, as well as HB 2927, the Paid Family Leave Act, and HB 2928, the Healthy Families and Workplaces Act.

“OCSW is delighted to recognize Reps. Nelson and Dunnington’s important contributions to Oklahoma women with the 2016 Guardian Award,” said Kohlman.
