Lankford Helps Lead Effort to Recognize 60th Anniversary of National Motto

Senator James Lankford helped to lead the recognition of the 60th Anniversary for adoption of the National Motto, “In God We Trust.” President Eisenhower signed the legislation putting the motto in place.

“Our national motto is a powerful declaration that reflects the unique founding of America,” said Lankford. “It is important that we honor this motto, because it honors the birth of our great nation. I’m grateful that our country’s start was rooted in the belief that there is something bigger than ourselves.”

“In God We Trust” began appearing on U.S. coins in 1864 and was engraved in several places around the Capitol building.
