Is This A Great Country, Or What?

Mike McCarville

For those of us who remember Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett as a very young television sports reporter and who knew Midwest City Mayor Jack Fry when he was a young firefighter, the sight of the two of them greeting the President of the United States deplaning from Air Force One is proof enough that this is a great country.

For those of us old enough to remember the “old” downtown Oklahoma City and what I. M. Pei’s urban renewal plan did to it (vast wasteland for years comes to mind), the sight of downtown today is proof enough that this is a great country.

For those of us who spent much of our careers in offices surrounded by reference books, stacks of documents and piles of research materials, the Internet is proof enough that this is a great country.

For those of us who lived through a time when only Democrats held statewide elective office in Oklahoma, today is proof enough that this is a great country.
