National Taxpayers Union Puts Two Lankford Bills on “No-Brainers” List

Two bills written by Senator James Lankford made this year’s National Taxpayers Union “No-Brainers” Top Ten List. Those bills are the Taxpayers Right to Know Act (S. 282) and the Stop Settlement Slush Funds Act (S. 3050).

The National Taxpayers Union generates the top ten list to highlight legislation which has bi-partisan support and would be a win for taxpayers. The organization said Lankford’s bills aim to create a more efficient government by bringing more transparency and accountability to federal spending.

The Taxpayers Right to Know Act would create an online database that tracks financial data and performance metrics for all federal agencies funded over $1 million.

The Stop Settlement Slush Funds Act would stop the practice of “sue and settle” by preventing the Department of Justice from entering such agreements, then forcing defendants to make a “donation” to a third party.
