Roberts Takes Rural Healthcare Study Ideas Into Next Legislative Session

During an interim study focused on rural healthcare outcomes this week, several healthcare professionals offered ideas for the next legislative session.

Rep. Sean Roberts requested the study.

“Those who live in rural areas in our state often have limited access to healthcare services or physicians,” said Roberts. “I requested this study to see what the Legislature can do to help in this area.”

Suggestions ranged from improving the state’s reimbursement system for rural care to reducing tobacco usage to increasing healthcare access in rural areas through community health centers. Many of the presenters talked about their desire for more funding and issues with insurance coverage.

“As we prepare for the next legislative session, we will take these matters to heart,” Roberts said. “It’s important that all residents of our state have access to the best services to improve and maintain their health and wellness.”
