By Jason Doyle Oden

It’s a two-man race for Oklahoma’s Congressional District Three seat. The contest between Republican incumbent Frank Lucas and Democrat Frankie Robbins is to represent most of the northwest half of Oklahoma in Congress.

frankie-robbinsFor Robbins, it is the third time he’s run for the seat. The Medford resident failed to win the Democratic nomination in 2012, but faced Lucas in the 2014 General Election. He website indicates he wants to put partisan politics to the side and focus on issues on a case by case basis.

Describing himself on an April 6, 2016, blog, Robbins said he believes solutions can come from either party.

“I am an independent thinker, open-minded, and most importantly I know I can’t learn anything while I’m talking. Listening is an essential skill for a representative of the people. Seldom are resolutions to issues black and white. For example, there are good Christian people on both sides of the Pro-Life/Pro-Choice issue, an issue that has divided us for over 40 years,” wrote Robbins.

lucas1Lucas has held the seat since winning a special election in 1994 at the beginning of the “Republican Revolution.” He’s well known for taking up agriculture issues and helped to guide the 2014 Farm Bill to fruition as Chairman of the House Committee on Agriculture. Lucas also serves on the Science, Space & Technology and Financial Services Committees.

When Lucas announced he was running for reelection, he committed to keeping the federal government in check.

“We live in uncertain times, and it’s up to each of us as Americans to defend our country and the Constitution,” Lucas said. “I’m dedicated to protecting our Second Amendment rights and working to secure our borders. I will continue to fight for lower taxes and reducing the national debt. Hard-working Oklahomans live within their means every day, and it’s far past time that the federal government did the same.”
