Drone Study Set for Wednesday

A Senate interim study set for Wednesday will take the day to examine the issues surrounding drones over Oklahoma airspace. Specifically, Senate Frank Simpson requested that the study focus on the rules and regulations on the use of unmanned aircraft systems.

“This is an emerging technology that raises concerns about property rights, privacy and more, but there is also the potential for economic development and other positives.  It’s important for us to take a comprehensive look at the issues, current regulations and policy, and determine what may need to be done at the state level to better address the potential for problems without stifling the ability to take advantage of those positives,” Simpson said.

Several presenters are lined up to speak on legal issues, practical uses, and regulations.

The interim study will be held in Room 535 in the state Capitol from 10:00 a.m. through 4:30 p.m.
