HD93 Contest Flares Over Postcard Photo, GOP Chief Pollard Disavows It

Another south Oklahoma City legislative race is heating up over a postcard. The Oklahoman’s Ben Felder writes it was sent by Republican House District 93 candidate Jay Means and is critical of Democratic opponent Mickey Dollens’ stance on immigration. However, it implies children depicted on the photograph were illegal. Also, the Means campaign failed to get permission to use the children’s picture.

The mailer said the Oklahoma Republican Party paid the bill for its production, but Chairwoman Pam Pollard told NewsChannel 4 her office never gave it the thumbs up.

“No one from the Oklahoma Republican Party saw it, read it, had any approval process whatsoever,” she said. “I did not even know about the mailer until this morning.”

Pollard said the GOP is altering its policies, after two other mailers were also sent out unapproved.

Now, all GOP-sponsored mailers will need written approval.

She wants anyone who may have been offended by the mailer to contact her office so they can have a conversation.

“There was no intention to imply anything about the people in the photograph,” she said, “I’m proud to reach out to the Hispanic community, and I want them to know that they are Republicans, that they are Conservatives, that we are all Americans.”
