Senate Committee Passes REAL ID Act Compliance Bill

The bill which will allow Oklahoma’s identification and driver’s licenses to be REAL ID Act complaint passed through the Senate Appropriations Committee on Wednesday. The measure is on the fast track through the Legislature because a deadline to comply is looming.

“With committee passage of this bill, the Senate is addressing an issue the vast majority of Oklahomans want us to quickly resolve. Besides allowing Oklahomans the convenience of continuing to use their state-issued driver licenses to fly commercially, fixing the REAL ID problem is an issue of national security. Thousands of Oklahomans work on military bases and need to maintain access so they can continue their important work supporting the brave men and women in our Armed Forces who protect our freedoms. I appreciate my colleagues for supporting this bill and look forward to its quick passage soon off the floor of the Senate,” said Senate President Pro Tem Mike Schulz who is the Senate author for House Bill 1845.

If the legislation becomes law, it allows Oklahomans to request ID cards and licenses which are non-compliant with the REAL ID Act. However, they will have to use an approved form of ID to access federal and military installations, as well as, board commercial airlines.

I have a retired military ID card, that I use to access military installations. Can I use this to board commercial flights?
