Recent State Property Sales Generated $3.1 Million

The state repaired the roofs of three Department of Corrections facilities thanks to a sale of underutilized property. It is part of a program to identify properties which the state doesn’t need and use the proceeds to help state agencies.

The House Governor Modernization Committee heard testimony that the sales from the program has generated more than $3.1 million. So far, more than 362,000 square feet of owned and leased space have been removed from state custody.

Once the properties leave state ownership, they begin to generate taxes.

“In a time of budget shortfall, today’s testimony serves as reminder that there is still plenty of good news as the legislative and executive branches of government continue to work together to implement common sense policies to right-size and lower the cost of state government to the taxpayer,” said committee Vice Chair Tom Gann.

Wednesday’s hearing was part of a series by the Government Modernization Committee to provide oversight of government modernization and efficiency initiatives.
