Hunter Praises Legislature for Creating Commission on Opioid Abuse

Attorney General Mike Hunter released the following statement on the passage of Senate Concurrent Resolution 12, creating the Oklahoma Commission on Opioid Abuse.

The resolution passed unanimously in the House and by a 38 – 2 margin in the Senate.

“I appreciate the members in both chambers working to pass this important measure, especially Sen. AJ Griffin and Rep. Tim Downing, who authored the resolution and worked tirelessly to see it through,” said Hunter.

“The creation of the commission is a crucial first step in examining this public health crisis. As a state, we can no longer ignore the epidemic we face.

“The opioid crisis involves many stakeholders. This commission will bring everyone to the table in an all-hands-on-deck effort to combat the problem. I look forward to working closely with the members of the commission to find sound policy solutions to present to the legislature that will hold addicts accountable while not punishing patients who suffer from chronic pain.”

Hunter will chair the commission.
