U.S. Senator James Lankford Thursday met with Christopher Wray, President Donald Trump’s nominee to serve as the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
“Christopher Wray’s experience both in private and public service will serve him well to uphold the mission of the FBI to protect and defend the United States,” said Lankford. “Today’s meeting with Chris was an opportunity to meet and ask specific questions about his qualifications and priorities. We discussed investigating counterterrorism, gang violence, and trans-national criminal organizations, all essential functions of the FBI. In a time when our nation’s cybersecurity and counterterrorism are constantly threatened, it is critical we fill this role, and his strong and steady leadership will serve our nation and the agency well. I look forward to supporting his confirmation in the days ahead.”
Wray received his undergraduate and a law degree from Yale University. He served as US Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia, Associate Deputy Attorney General of the Department of Justice, and Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General. He was a member of the Department of Justice operations during and following the 9/11 attacks.
Wray has also served as Assistant Attorney General during President George W. Bush’s administration and was confirmed unanimously by the Senate. Since 2005, Wray has work in private practice at King & Spalding.
Lankford serves on the Intelligence Committee, Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, and the Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, and Science, which has funding jurisdiction over the FBI.
