Munson Appointed to Oklahoma Commission on the Status of Women

Rep. Cyndi Munson was appointed earlier this month by Speaker of the House Charles McCall to serve on the Oklahoma Commission on the Status of Women (OCSW), a non-partisan group enabling women to make their maximum contribution to society.

The OCSW was created in 1994 by the Legislature as an advisory board on gender bias issues. The commissioners work with all three branches of government to develop and support programs and policies that improve the quality of life for women in Oklahoma.

“It’s a tremendous honor to serve on the Oklahoma Commission on the Status of Women,” said Munson. “It is a distinct privilege to be a female lawmaker and fight for policies that place women on an equal playing field. Serving on the commission will enable me to continue this fight with a diverse group of individuals, and I am thankful Speaker McCall recognized my zeal and appointed me to this position.”

Commissioners serve five-year terms and develop an annual report for the governor, president pro tempore of the Senate and the speaker of the House. Recommendations in the report may include needed legislation or regulatory changes relating to equity and gender bias.

“We are fortunate to have several women legislators in the Oklahoma House of Representatives who have been appointed to this commission because they have been very active voices for women’s rights during their time in the Legislature,” said McCall. “Rep. Munson’s passion for these issues and her experience in the Legislature will ensure that Oklahoma women are well represented on the commission.”

And this is one of the many boards and commissions that could be ended since it is not an essential service of the government.

Are they paid to be on these boards and commissions?
