Osborn Calls for Civility

In the midst of name calling on the House floor, Rep. Leslie Osborn is asking lawmakers to make a return to civility.

“In the last few months, members of my political party and caucus have called women ‘hosts,’ suggested Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) pluck children from schools to save taxpayer dollars in education, and now have called our hard-working, underpaid state employees terrorists. These are the same people who protect our foster children, keep our streets safe, educate our children, prosecute criminals and treat the mentally ill.  No one has addressed or apologized for these statements that do not represent our body as a whole. In special session we have heard the impending tales of horror to come due to lack of state funding; the mentally ill’s loss of services, closure of rural hospitals and nursing homes, and the end of programs to assist the developmentally disadvantaged. However, we refuse real bipartisan solutions to properly fund core services. I am embarrassed to be a part of these failures; it’s not what I ran on or signed up for. Today I hope that Republican’s across the state will stand together and say enough. That they will rally to the call of Pres. George W. Bush to be compassionate conservatives. That they will cry out for civil discourse and legislators that work across the aisle and rotunda with honest conversation instead of shenanigans, name calling and political gamesmanship. Please hold us accountable, expect more, demand more….our state deserves better.”

“it’s not what I ran on or signed up for”

What she ran on was a pledge, which she even signed, not to vote for tax increases. Maybe that was the wrong position … but it was her position. And now she’s mad, when you cut through all her rhetoric, that other elected officials are KEEPING their word.

Spoken like a true tax and spend legislator! There is another, more appropriate appellation for compassionate conservatives: Rino. Republican in name only!

Most people understand that the last thing a civilized person would do is mischaracterize or blatantly lie about other peoples statements.

Osborn might lead the way in “a return to civility” by apologizing for he unsubstantiated remarks. Those kind of remarks are not the characteristic of a civilized person.

If Osborn can demonstrate that any member of the Legislature called state employees terrorists, I would be happy to apologize to her for this post. However, I am certain she will not be able.

Instead look forward to silence on her part regarding this issue, although she may try to respond with her usual tactic of avoiding an answer by personal attacks against the person who challenges her inappropriate behavior.

Today I hope that Republicans across the state will stand together and say enough. That they will rally to the call of public servitude and represent citizens by casting votes in accordance with the Republican party platform and the will of the people. That they will cry out for transparency in government, an end to corruption in government, and demand that the rule of law and a proper moral compass are the foundation of their service. I hold them accountable for the fiscal debacle they have created and I expect more, I demand more because Oklahomans deserve better.
