Fallin Reappoints Bennett As OU Regent

Governor Fallin Wednesday announced she has reappointed Clay Bennett to the Board of Regents for the University of Oklahoma (OU).

The governor appointed Bennett, of Oklahoma City, to his first seven-year term in March 2011. His reappointment requires Senate confirmation.

Bennett is president of Dorchester Capital, a private investment firm, and is chairman of the Oklahoma City Thunder, a National Basketball Association franchise.  He also serves as chairman of both the Oklahoma State Fair and the Oklahoma Industries Authority.

“Clay Bennett is an effective leader and a successful businessman, and I appreciate his willingness to continue to serve on the OU Board of Regents, especially during this crucial time as the university searches for a new president,” said Fallin. “Clay has worked hard to ensure OU continues to provide a quality education to our students and produces the kind of talented, skilled workforce we need in order to compete in a global economy. That kind of quality workforce, combined with the cutting-edge research done at universities like OU, helps to create new jobs and opportunities in Oklahoma.”

Bennett is very involved in civic and charitable affairs. He has served as chairman of the Oklahoma State Fair, Greater Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce, the Oklahoma Industries Authority, the Oklahoma Heritage Association, Downtown Oklahoma City, Inc., and the Oklahoma Health Center Foundation.

He serves as director of the Oklahoma City Industrial and Cultural Facilities Trust; the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame, the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, and the Native American Cultural and Educational Authority of Oklahoma.

“I am honored to continue my service on the OU Board of Regents, and I appreciate Governor Fallin’s confidence in me,” Bennett said. “I will strive to build upon the academic excellence of OU and to ensure it offers a superb learning opportunity now and in the years ahead.”

Bennett and his wife, Louise Gaylord Bennett, reside in Oklahoma City and have three children.
