Primary Primer: Democratic Nomination for Labor Commissioner

The McCarville Report presents the 2018 Primary Primer series. These features will take a look at the nomination races for the statewide elected seats. We are taking an excerpt from each candidate’s website (or social media account/public statements if they don’t have a website) and adding a link back to the candidate’s page. The candidates appear in the order they are listed on the Oklahoma State Election Board’s List of Elections.

Remember to vote in the June 26, 2018 Oklahoma primary elections.

Fred Dorrell

Fred Dorrell has worked in the automotive and aerospace manufacturing sectors along with serving as the president/chairman of UAW Local 1895. He also spends time as an adjunct professor at Tulsa Community College. Dorrell believes both labor and management can work to improve the workplace.

Fred Dorrell’s philosophy is that labor and management can find common ground but that both sides must endeavor to find an understanding among one another.  He will work to invoke the core values of collaboration, inspiration and transparency which are critical to serve the people of Oklahoma.  Fred’s determination to find solutions and treat others with dignity and respect while doing so will make him an excellent Labor Commissioner.

Sam A Mis-soum

Sam A Mis-soum is an advanced materials engineer and has started multiple private businesses. He has outlined his “Better Oklahoma Blueprint” on his website. We highlight his Education and Training plank below and link to his website for the rest.

Education & Training

  • Give Education the biggest seat at the table.
  • Support SSA:COLA pay increase for teachers.
  • Advocate for technical & vocational training.
  • Invest in mental health for students & workers.
