Hofmeister Points to Student Trauma as Classroom Issue

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister tied Oklahoma’s high rate of incarceration and food insecurity to students dealing with trauma in the classroom. The Stillwater News Press/CNHI News Oklahoma’s David Bitton writes Hofmeister contends teachers need to be trained on how to work with students who have come through an adverse experience such has having parents go to prison, witnessing violence and dealing with little or no food at home.
