Bills Filed to Limit Teacher Protests

A handful of bills have been filed which curtail teachers and other education officials from walking out when they have a dispute with the Legislature. The Tulsa World’s Andrea Eger writes the measures would dock the pay and revoke the license of teachers who participate in a walkout or strike, force local school board elections to determine if the Oklahoma Education Association should continue as a negotiator in collective bargaining agreements in the district, create a misdemeanor for disrupting the Legislature, create of a “code of ethics” for teachers and require a $50,000 bond for protests at the Oklahoma Capitol by one hundred or more people.

Smart moves by our Legislators who serve to benefit our children across the state and those who pay the teachers’ salaries, the tax payers of Oklahoma. Unfortunately, all walkouts produce is more money in the pocket of the corrupt union.
