Groups supporting school choice in Oklahoma are set to gather at the Capitol Thursday mid-morning. School Choice Day at the Capitol starts at 11:00 a.m. with parents expected to advocate for the expansion of rights to determine where and how to educate their children.
“Our message to lawmakers is simple: put children first” said Robert Ruiz, executive director for ChoiceMatters. “Children are more important than systems or buildings, and our policies should reflect that. If we are thinking first and foremost about the well-being of our children it means always giving them and their family a choice to find the best educational opportunities available to them. It means never telling a family ‘no’ simply to preserve a system or to protect the status quo.”
Among the policies the group supports are an expansion of the Equal Opportunity Scholarship program and expansion of the Lindsey Nicole Henry Scholarships to help homeless children and children with incarcerated parents.
The rally is to take place on the Fourth Floor Rotunda.
School Choice is another term for parental freedom. God didn’t give children to a school system, He gave them to parents. Education is an inherent part of raising children. Therefore parents should decide where to educate their kids, and their ability to do so should not depend on their wealth.
