Baber Declares Candidacy for Oklahoma Senate District 35

Tulsa Attorney Cheryl Baber has officially announced her Republican candidacy for Oklahoma State Senate District 35. Baber is an accomplished former Assistant U.S. Attorney and federal law clerk who worked on several high-profile cases, including one in which she successfully defended two Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) officers who were working to arrest an illegal immigrant fugitive. Baber believes her strong record defending the Constitution and our traditional values as an attorney has prepared her for this seat.

“I’ve spent most of my career in the judicial system defending the Constitution and seeing that our rights as citizens are protected. I want to apply my experience, knowledge, and convictions to defend our constitutional values and deliver effective legislation. I want to be Senate District 35’s voice for conservative solutions,” Baber said.

Baber received her law degree from Columbia University and her bachelor’s degree in political science and economics from Midwestern State University. She lives in Tulsa with Chuck, her husband of nearly 20 years, and their two sons, Grant and Luke. Baber is a proud Tulsan of 25 years and a life-long Oklahoman, who grew up on a farm and ranch in Walters, Oklahoma.

Baber currently volunteers her time as an attorney with Tulsa Lawyers for Children, an organization which fights on behalf of abused and neglected children in foster care. “As a parent and an attorney, I want to do what I can to protect children and see that Oklahoma can offer them every opportunity to live life to the fullest. As a legislator, I will work with Governor Stitt’s team to address pro-life issues, among many others, toward this purpose.”

The open seat is currently held by Republican State Senator Gary Stanislawski, who is serving his final term in office and retiring due to term limits. The primary election will be held on June 30, 2020.

We will miss Gary, but Cheryl Baber will be a great successor. She is one smart cookie.
