Five Legislators Honored for Workplace Safety Efforts

The Oklahoma Workplace Safety Coalition is recognizing the efforts of five legislators who have helped pass laws to enhance safety measures on the job by giving them the Workplace Safety Champion award. The recipients are Senator James Leewright, Senator Lonnie Paxton, Rep. Chris Kannady, Rep. Ryan Martinez and Rep. Nicole Miller.

Leewright and Miller wrote Senate Bill 752 to clarify that it is unlawful to disrupt business via electronic communication.

Senate Bill 715 created the Workplace Safety and Violence Act which allows employers to access restraining orders to protect employees. Paxton and Kannady were the authors of the measure.

Paxton teamed up with Martinez for Senate Bill 656 which modernizes training requirements for law enforcement; a measure supported by the Workplace Safety Coalition.

AJ Griffin, Director of Government and Community Affairs for Paycom, praised the work of Leewright, Paxton, Kannady, Martinez and Miller. Paycom is a member of the Coalition.

“Employers across Oklahoma have important new tools to use when working with law enforcement to protect the workplace from acts of violence,” Griffin said. “Those of us at Paycom and the entire Workplace Safety Coalition are grateful to these legislators for their work carrying this important legislation.”

The three measures take effect on November 1, 2019.
