Representative Kyle Hilbert is looking to make the practice of spoofing caller IDs to fool potential telemarketing scam victims officially illegal in Oklahoma. House Bill 3081 would prohibit the practice in the state.
While Hilbert admits this is mostly a federal government issue, Oklahoma must do what it can.
“We must do everything in our power as a state to limit these calls,” Hilbert said. “We need to give Oklahoma prosecutors every tool possible to hold accountable the morally bankrupt individuals who run these telephone scams on the elderly and the vulnerable.”
Hilbert based the bill on legislation passed in Texas last year.
