Stitt Freezes Travel for State Officials, Relaxes Law Enforcement Certification Requirements

Governor Kevin Stitt on Saturday amended Executive Order 2020-07 to freeze travel for state officials and relax peace officer and CLEET certification requirements. This comes as Saturday’s number of positive COVID-19 tests rises to 377 with 15 total deaths.

“The State is working to ensure we continue to do our part in slowing the spread of COVID-19 and provide our agencies with the flexibility they need in order to execute on their essential duties,” said Stitt. “These measures will help us ensure our law enforcement agencies have the necessary manpower as we continue to respond to this crisis while also limiting non-essential travel.”

The move keeps state employees and officials close to home. Any travel out of state requires the approval of the governor.

For law enforcement, the relaxation of the requirements for completing training to become a certified peace officer means more boots on the ground during the emergency.
