Legislators Must Figure How to Pay for Medicaid Expansion

It’s estimated that it will cost the State of Oklahoma approximately $200 million dollars to begin the Medicaid expansion under the newly approved State Question 802.

Tulsa World’s Randy Krehbiel and Barbara Hoberock write lawmakers have a year to come up with the funding mechanism for the expansion to start on July 1, 2021.

Some of the possibilities include an increase to the fee charged to hospitals to help capture federal funding and State Question 814 which changes the apportionment of tobacco settlement payments to the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust, or TSET.

70 counties voted NO, so let the other counties pay for it.

My thinking is, that the people of Oklahoma have been sold a bill of goods. VERY expensive bill of goods. Time will tell. My guess is….once again an assault on SQ640. Lets hope Legislators can move beyond that easy fall-back and do their JOB! Other areas that may suffer remain to be seen.
