As Special Session Gets Underway, Lawmakers Expand Mission to Drought Relief

Even as the gavel came down to reopen the Second Extraordinary Session of the 58th Oklahoma Legislature, lawmakers were looking to help farmers and ranchers dealing with severe drought.

Tulsa World’s Barbara Hoberock writes the Legislature will consider another $20 million in emergency drought relief during this session.

Lawmakers will consider several projects to be funded by the American Rescue Plan Act funds.

Governor Kevin Stitt called on the Legislature to eliminate the state grocery tax while in session, however, Senate leadership had decided to take a slower approach to tax reform.
