Carnuccio Continues Personal Income Tax Phase-out Push

Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs

Michael Carnuccio, president of the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs (OCPA), released the following statement today to provide an update on OCPA’s efforts to continue building momentum behind the idea of phasing out Oklahoma’s personal income tax.

“Our organization has had the great fortune to lead much of the dialogue in Oklahoma as to why our state should responsibly phase out its personal income tax. No other policy move would do more to clearly establish Oklahoma as one of the best states in America for business growth, job creation, new investment and individual opportunity.

“That’s why OCPA has been preparing new research with economist Dr. Arthur Laffer, which we will release to the public soon, as we continue to build the case for Oklahoma becoming the next no-income-tax state. In just the past few months, Kansas lawmakers passed the biggest tax cut in their state’s history, which has resulted in that state having a lower tax rate than Oklahoma. If we stay stagnant, other states will gladly attract the jobs we miss out on.

“Along with phasing out Oklahoma’s income tax, OCPA will also continue to push ideas such as reducing unnecessary state government spending, shifting Oklahoma to an administrative system for workers’ compensation, and broadening school choice for parents and children, as we continue to talk about free markets and limited government in the state we love.”
