Terrill, Moore, Shortey Defend Doak After Democrat Criticism

Reps. Randy Terrill and Lewis Moore and Senator Lewis Shortey today defended Insurance Commissioner John Doak after Democrats criticized him over child-only insurance policies.

Terrill issued the following statement after Democrats attacked Doak’s efforts to address the problems facing families needing child-only insurance policies:

“The Democrat’s (sic) healthcare policy has been an utter failure, and rather than grandstanding in the press they should be apologizing to the thousand’s (sic) of Oklahoma families they’ve hurt with their misguided healthcare initiatives.

“No one disputes that it was Democratic President Barack Obama’s healthcare legislation that completely killed child-only insurance in Oklahoma. Likewise, no one disputes that the former Democratic Governor and the former Democratic Insurance Commissioner stood idly by and offered no solutions while our state’s children were left unprotected and uninsured. For this state’s Democrats to now come out of their holes to criticize the remarkable gains made by Insurance Commissioner Doak is the height of hypocrisy and maybe a little case of sour grapes.

“Regardless, our state can hardly afford another Democrat ‘solution’ to our healthcare problems. The simple fact is that Commissioner Doak has succeeded where his predecessor had failed to even try, and in one short year he has repaired 95 percent of the damage caused by the Democrats when they destroyed the ability of many Oklahoma families to get insurance for their children. In my opinion we should clearly continue to let Commissioner Doak take the lead on insurance reform until we have completely recovered that final bit of the market that is still lost.”

Moore and Shortey echoed Terrill’s remarks.
