Capitol reporters began noticing an increased security presence around the Governor’s Mansion as the November 18 execution date for Julius Jones approaches.
KWTV News 9 reporter Storme Jones tweeted a photo of security barricades near the Governor’s mansion.
The Jones’ family has been at the Governor’s Office trying to get a meeting with Governor Stitt to plead for Jones’ life. A vigil of sorts has begun at the Capitol with Jones’ supporters occupying the second floor.
The Pardon and Parole Board has recommended Jones’ sentence to be commuted to life with the possibility of parole. Jones case had garnered national attention as he continues to argue he is innocent of the 1999 killing of Edmond resident Paul Howell.
Howell’s family did meet with Stitt.
Jones recently lost an appeal in federal court which leaves his fate in Stitt’s hands.
