Recreational Marijuana Petition to Circulate Starting in Early August

Starting on August 6, 2025, registered Oklahoma voters will be asked to sign an initiative petition to put recreational cannabis back on the ballot. Oklahomans for Responsible Cannabis Action (ORCA) posted on its Facebook page Monday that it had received all the required paperwork from the Oklahoma Secretary of State.

The initiative petition submitted by ORCA on March 31, 2025, did not receive a challenge during the challenge period.

According to ORCA’s post, the organization hopes to be ready to distribute the petition packets by August 1st.

The proposed change to the Oklahoma Constitution requires 172,993 legal voters to sign the petition to put it on a future ballot.

The previous attempt at recreational marijuana was State Question 820. It failed in 2023.

The current initiative petition will be known as State Question 837.

ORCA must have its signatures turned into the Secretary of State’s Office by November 3, 2025.
